The Varley Art Gallery in Markham, Canada—which first opened in 1997—is named after Frederick Horsman Varley, an original member of Canada’s famed Group of Seven. The gallery houses many works by Canadian masters but is also a vibrant community hub, connecting the area’s residents through special programming and exhibitions. In addition to contemporary typographic treatments and a vivd colour palette, Varley’s new brand includes a graphic device comprised of the gallery’s initials that speaks of the various connections created in the community. The shapes can then be deconstructed and applied across promotional material.
